Dinky bags with quilting and tinny gilt chains have rattled through high-street tills for years. But the Chanel effect is multiplying with the release of Coco Before Chanel, the biopic starring Audrey Tautou, and those little ridges of quilting are rippling ever outwards. And so it is that Peacocks is making Chanel-style wellies. They arrive in the budget retailer's stores next month for just £15. Over at Chanel, of course, the transient vulgarities of cinema listings are said to have no effect. Besides, they have their own real Chanel wellies: black with white soles, yours for £140.
