Quicksand victim saved after surviving days without food and water

  • Andrew Giddens, a 36-year-old from Jacksonville, was rescued after being missing since Valentine's Day.
  • His car was discovered on 23 February, leading to a search by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
  • He was found on 25 February at the Vulcan Sand Plant, trapped in shoulder-deep mud in freezing conditions.
  • Crews from the Palatka, Putnam County, and Melrose Fire Departments conducted a challenging rescue due to unstable ground.
  • Following his rescue, Giddens was airlifted to a trauma centre in a critical condition.
