A fast-acting Metro driver was able to come to the aid of a distressed woman after she jumped in front of the train at Pelaw station this evening.
Nexus, the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro service, has confirmed that a woman leaped into the path of an approaching Metro train just before 5pm on April 11. Thankfully, the driver was able to stop the train in time and helped her off the track.
The woman was then helped onto the train and taken to Heworth Interchange where she received further care.

Trains were delayed for around 30 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth following the incident.
A Nexus spokesman said: “Services have been disrupted due to an incident at Pelaw Metro station where there was concern for the welfare of a woman who was on the track.
“The driver managed to get her on board the train so she could then receive care at Heworth Interchange.”
