Boris Johnson booed and jeered by Question Time crowd from moment he walked on

Boris Johnson faced a frosty reception from the audience tonight as he faced a grilliing.

He was booed and jeered as soon as he walked onstage for the BBC Question Time election special - and it continued throughout.

The audience laughed and groaned when the Prime Minister said MPs were "given every opportunity" to pass his Brexit Bill.

And they laughed when he boasted of the Tories building record homes.

There was consternation when he refused to apologise for comments he made in articles as a journalist.

The audience scoffed after Mr Johnson said: “If you go through all my articles with a fine-tooth comb and take out individual phrases there is no doubt that you can find things that can be made to seem offensive and of course I understand that.”

The audience was outraged as he initially failed to answer a question on why a report into Russian interference had not been released.

Mr Johnson said: “There is absolutely no evidence that I know of to show any interference in any British electoral event.”

Referring to the report not yet being released, the PM said: “And the reason I won’t is I see no reason, or if I decided not to ages ago, is because I see no reason to interfere with the normal timetable... just because an election is going on.”

A junior doctor skewered Boris and branded him a ‘liar’ over NHS  funding.

She said, to loud applause: "I'm a junior doctor in A&E. Over the past nine years we've seen waiting lists getting longer, people are on trolleys for hours and hours in A&E.

"It's not just inconvenient, people are dying. I think you're lying to us, every year you promise more money for the NHS but people within the NHS know it's not getting through.

"Why should we trust that you're going to get this £26billion for the NHS when we've got years of cuts and people dying?"

The Prime Minister endured an uncomfortable evening on the show, with his half hour grilling branded a 'car crash' by critics.

And people were skeptical when he claimed Tories have a zero tolerance on Islamophobia.

He was put under further pressure when he was asked about his previous sexist and homophobic remarks from his newspaper columns.

He said: “If you go through all my articles with a fine tooth comb there is no doubt that you can find things that may seem offensive."

Boris was the last leader to be challenged by the audience in tonight's special edition.

Fiona Bruce was presenting the special two-hour edition of the political panel show.

Each leader had 30 minutes to answer questions live, between 7pm and 9pm.

Jeremy Corbyn said he backed a second referendum but would stay neutral regarding its outcome.

Jo Swinson of the Liberal Democrats and Nicola Sturgeon of the SNP also took questions earlier in the evening.

This is the second major television event following on from the first live debate between Tory PM Boris Johnson and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn on ITV on Tuesday night.

Boris Johnson had been pictured sneaking into the Question Time studio by a back door - not long after Jeremy Corbyn greeted crowds outside.

The Tory party leader made a low key entrance ahead of his questioning on the flagship politics show.

In contrast, the Labour Party looked at ease addressing members of the public in Sheffield ahead of his appearance.
