Queen of the South sack boss Gary Naysmith days BEFORE relegation playoff

Queen of the South have sacked manager Gary Naysmith days before their relegation playoff with Montrose.

A 3-0 home defeat by Partick Thistle ensured Queens finished second bottom of the Championship .

Queens released a statement hours after that loss just three days before they face the Gable Endies in the fight for their survival.

It read: "The club have this evening parted company with manager Gary Naysmith.

"The board would like to thank Gary for his efforts during his time at Palmerston. Unfortunately we are in a results business and our recent results haven't been good enough.

"We wish Gary all the best for the future."

The Dumfries side take on Montrose in the playoffs with Forfar and Raith Rovers meeting in the other semi-final.

There was no mention of assistant manager Laurie Ellis or who will take charge for Tuesday's first leg at Links Park.

Queens have only won two games since January after being strong contenders for the promotion play-offs in the first half of the season.
