D-Wave Quantum on Tuesday said its most advanced quantum computer has reached "general availability" for customers such as governments and research institutions. D-Wave is the top performer among quantum computing stocks in 2025.
Further, D-Wave said the Advantage2 quantum computer is available in more than 40 countries for applications such as artificial intelligence and materials science.
On the stock market today, D-Wave stock gained more than 25% to 16.40 in afternoon trading. Also, D-Wave stock had advanced 56% in 2025 as of Monday's market close. Shares rallied on D-Wave's first quarter earnings report.
In the March quarter, D-Wave reported a smaller-than-expected first quarter loss while revenue topped views.
D-Wave in February won a big deal in Germany. The Jülich Supercomputing Centre bought one of D-Wave's quantum systems.
Quantum computing works on a subatomic level and uses exotic technologies, like supercold superconductor chips. Further, Quantum computing's ultimate benefit is that it aims to solve problems too complex for today's classical computers.
Quantum Computing Stocks: JPMorgan Report
In a report on quantum computing stocks published on Tuesday, JPMorgan noted D-Wave's progress.
"D-Wave specializes in quantum annealing, using superconducting flux qubits optimized for solving optimization problems," said the JPMorgan report. "Their newly announced Advantage2 prototype features over 1,200 qubits with 20-way connectivity, with a goal to reach 7,000 qubits in the full Advantage2 system. This prototype claims significant speedups over classical supercomputers."
The JPMorgan report added: "Developed with a lower-noise, multilayer superconducting integrated circuit fabrication stack, the Advantage2 prototype demonstrates substantial performance gains on hard optimization problems, such as spin glasses, and shows improved performance on constraint satisfaction problems … However, (D-Wave's) approach is limited to specific problem types, and they face debates about the broader applicability of quantum annealing."
D-Wave had $304 million in cash on its balance sheet as of March 30. On its Q1 earnings call with analysts, the company also commented on a new quantum project underway with Davidson Technologies in Huntsville, Alabama.
Meanwhile, quantum computing stocks have been volatile in 2025 amid controversy involving Nvidia over how soon commercially viable quantum technology will be available.
D-Wave Stock: Technical Ratings
Among quantum computing stocks, IonQ has retreated 16% in 2025. Also, Rigetti Computing has pulled back 21% and Quantum Computingis down 28%
Meanwhile, the average true range is a metric available on IBD's MarketSurge that gauges the characteristic breadth of a stock's behavior. Stocks that tend to make large jumps or dives in daily action, the kind that can trigger sell rules and shake investors out of a stock, have a high ATR. Stocks that tend to make more incremental moves have lower ATRs.
With the S&P 500 and Nasdaq now in a power trend, investors can buy stocks with ATRs up to 8%, though they should be wary of being too concentrated in high-octane names. D-Wave stock holds an ATR of 12.38%.
