Pune: Two engineers of APMC arrested in bribe demand case

PUNE: The state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested executive engineer Pramod Krushnarao Tupe and deputy engineer Arvind Damodhar Phadtare, both posted with the Agriculture Produce and Market Committee for demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a civil contractor.

A team headed by the superintendent of police, ACB, Rajesh Bansode, and deputy superintendent of police Shrihari Patil arrested the duo. A case against the two APMC officers was registered by the ACB with the Swargate police station later on Wednesday.

Patil told TOI, “A civil contractor was given work to construct a toilet in the APMC office building located at Gultekdi. The government had made budgetary provisions for the toilet. The civil contractor completed the work before August 2021. After completing the toilet work, the contractor prepared a file of his bills, totally worth Rs 19 lakhs, in August 2021 and submitted the file to the APMC officials. However, the two officers demanded Rs 2 lakh to clear his file and to issue cheques to him”.

“Following this, the complainant had approached us. There was no acceptance of the bribe but there was a demand. We verified the demand on three occasions at that time and on Wednesday arrested them,” Patil said.
