PUNE: Schools from the 34 merged villages in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits that will be run by the civic body in the next few months will create jobs for 500 teachers.
Currently, the schools are controlled by the Pune zilla parishad (ZP). However, the ZP has stated that the teachers in the schools will be appointed to other schools run by the administration.
The PMC will have to create the new requirement for nearly 500 teachers through the Pavitra portal.
Chief executive officer of Pune ZP Ayush Prasad said, “The staff at the schools may not remain there. The civic body will have to make arrangements for the staff at these schools on their own.”
Prasad said, “It is seen in the past that there has always been a seniority issue among the staff of both administrations. If the ZP teachers continue to work they will have to be promoted as per the civic body hierarchy and it may not be received well by the existing staff.”
“These issues have created problems in the past. We do not want a repeat and hence we have informed the civic body about our inability to hand over the staff to them,” said the officer.
Sunil Mete, a teacher at a ZP school in Wagholi, said, “The decision regarding the staff members needs to be taken immediately. The teachers and the students should not suffer because of an administrative delay.”
Additional commissioner of PMC Dnyaneshwar Molak said, “We are still working on the number of schools and the staff required. The planning for the merger is going on.”
“Decisions on the staff or announcement of any recruitment for the schools is premature. It will be studied separately and appropriate decisions would be taken,” Modak added.
