Pundits agree with verdict on 'balanced' Graham Potter after Chelsea defeat vs Arsenal

Chelsea suffered a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in the London Derby at Stamford Bridge this afternoon (Sunday) after Gabriel Magalhaes poked home a second-half winner.

The Blues struggled to control the game with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being met with boos throughout the game before being substituted after failing to make an impact as he faced his former side for the first time since leaving the Emirates Stadium. Graham Potter's side have now suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time during his tenure with the Blues' form dipping after a positive start.

Chelsea had to deal with a number of injury issues heading into the London Derby after Potter confirmed the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell were all ruled out. The defeat was a painful one for Chelsea supporters and Potter now needs to find a fix ahead of the World Cup break.

Potter must look to turn the Blues' form around before the Premier League pauses for the World Cup with Rio Ferdinand and Martin Keown offering their thoughts on the Chelsea boss.

Speaking on BT Sport's coverage of the clash, Ferdinand said: "From what we’ve seen from GP in recent years, he’s a very balanced person. He’ll look at this and understand exactly where they are. He understands that and Arsenal are three years ahead of where they are.

"That’s the biggest balance now. I know we keep referring to Arsenal, as a whole. The security and confidence he’s been able to bring this team. That’s what Graham needs to do here. You’re always trying to deliver a message."

Martin Keown added: "He’s supportive of his team, he’s very honest. It’s a work in progress really. It didn't function. The next step is to put everything right. First of all, he needs to work out what he thinks is the best formation for this group.

"This is the world we’re in. We’re in a world, it’s extreme. This isn’t down to a football manager. It’s very extreme. As a manager, you’re two games away from being the worse and two wins away from being the best manager."
