Pubs that will stay OPEN on Monday so customers can watch Queen’s funeral

Several pubs will stay open on Monday so customers can watch the Queen's funeral have been announced.

After the Queen passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, the funeral for the monarch was confirmed for Monday, September 19.

The date was announced as a bank holiday which means lots of shops are closing or shutting earlier - in order to allow their workers to pay their respects to Her Majesty.

Supermarkets including Aldi, Tesco and Poundland all announced they would shut - but a number of pubs and bar groups have announced they will remain open.

Stonegate group, which has over 300 bars and pubs including Slug and Lettuce and Walkabout, said their pubs would remain open so punters can watch the funeral together.

A group spokesperson said: "The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is a momentous and sombre occasion.

"We send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time.

"Our Managed pubs, bars and venues remain open and, where possible, will show the funeral on Monday 19 September to honour her life and service."

However, they also confirmed the groups Leased and Tenanted estate pub partners would decide themselves if they stay open.

A company spokesperson said: "Our pubs are a place for communities to come together, so all of our pubs in central London and most of those with televisions across the country will be open throughout Monday showing HM Queen Elizabeth’s funeral service.

"For those pubs and restaurants that don’t have televisions, such as our casual dining venues, we’ll be opening after the service.

"Customers are advised to contact their local pub to confirm opening times as these could be subject to change."

In addition, Whitbread, which owns Premier Inn and Beefeater, said they would keep their doors open for both their restaurants and hotels.

It comes after fast-food restaurant McDonald's confirmed they would be shutting all their UK chains as a mark of respect for the Queen.

The franchise, which has over 1,300 UK restaurants, said the takeaway giant would be shut until 5pm on the day of the funeral - with hours varying after.

Several independent pubs up and down the country may also choose to stay open - anyone wishing to visit one of these venues is advised to contact the pub directly.
