Public invited to see famous patrol ship LE Niamh in Dublin this weekend

The Irish navy is inviting people down to say hello and visit their hugely impressive patrol ship.

LE Niamh while be docking up at Sir John Rogerson's Quay this weekend and is going to be open to the public to come and visit.

The P52 vessel, which is named after the queen of Tir na nOg, has been involved in some huge operations including the seizure of €750 million worth of cocaine in 2008.

It was also involved in the surveillance that led to a €80 million drugs bust in 2014.

On top of fighting crime the vessel has also been used in humanitarian work and rescued 367 migrants in the Mediterranean sea from July to September 2015.

Revellers will be able to take a look at the ship's dual purpose gun and possibly also get a glimpse of the hi-tech cameras and radars on board.

The Irish Navy said that she will be open for visits on Saturday and Sunday from 2pm to 5pm on Sir John Rogerson's Quay.
