Pub tells diner 'stick to Wetherspoons' after scathing TripAdvisor review

A pub owner has told a customer to 'stick to Wetherspoons ' after they shared a scathing review on TripAdvisor.

The customer described the food served to them as "average at best".

The customer, called James on the reviews website, visited the St Aubyn Arms on The Square in Praze-An-Beeble three weeks ago.

Following his visit to the eatery, he went on to TripAdvisor to share his thoughts, reports Cornwall Live.

He posted a one-star review titled "shocking", and said he had eaten better food at Wetherspoons.

He went on to accuse the establishment of watering the ketchup down with vinegar, which the pub denied.

Owner of the St Aubyn Arms, Lorraine Gordy, quickly hit back at the reviews, and say they can "feel free to stay with Wetherspoons food" as the Cornish venue's food is "cooked fresh" using fresh produce sourced locally.

The customer, named James on the reviews website, visited the pub three weeks ago (Google Maps)

The owner added: "All pubs are struggling for staff and customers, therefore a review like this which is most definitely unfounded makes owners feel like what’s the point fighting anymore."

The review in full said: "Food average at best. Had better food at Wetherspoons! Even the ketchup etc are all watered down with vinegar."

St Aubyn Arms' response said: "Absolutely gutted with this review, not one bit of our food is watered down with anything! Feel free to stay with Wetherspoons food.

"Our food is cooked fresh fresh with fresh produced sourced locally. If you had a complaint please mentioned at the time of your visit.

"All pubs are struggling for staff and customers, therefore a review like this which is most definitely unfounded makes owners feel like what's the point fighting anymore. We apologise to anyone reading this review as seems malicious if anything else!

"It's very easy on the hidden social media to say these things, best said [to the] management at the time. Recently been out ourselves (a rare occasion and it wasn't amazing but wouldn't bad mouth)."
