PSNI appeal after man left in critical condition following Co Down crash

A cyclist is in hospital where his condition is described as critical after a crash in Co Down on Wednesday.

The man was injured in the alleged collision involving a car which happened on Main Street in Newcastle.

Police say it reportedly happened at around 4.30pm on September 22.

A PSNI spokesperson added: "Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision in Newcastle yesterday, Wednesday 22nd September.

"The incident, which involved a car and a cyclist, was reported at approximately 4.30pm, and took place at Main Street in the town.

"The male cyclist was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. A woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving.

"She was subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries

" Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dash cam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1485 of 22/09/21."

In other news, a man in his 20s is reported to have received 'minor head wounds' after a shot was fired through the window of a house in Co Down.

Detectives in Banbridge are appealing for witnesses following the incident last night at around 8.15pm.

A man carrying what appeared to be a shotgun was seen in the area at the time, according to police.

Officers attended the property at Railway Street and say two men and a woman were inside the house at the time.
