PSG insist Lionel Messi signing has not breached FFP: ‘We always follow the rules from day one to the end’

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insists the club are not breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations by signing Lionel Messi.

The 34-year-old great has joined the French side on a huge two-year contract, believed to be worth around £1m-a-week before tax.

It has led some to question how PSG cannot be breaching Uefa’s FFP regulations, which are designed to ensure clubs spend within their means.

But Al-Khelaifi said on Wednesday morning: “Regarding FFP, we always follow the regulations from day one to the end.

“We will always follow these regulations. Before we do anything, we check with our commercial, financial and legal people.

“We have the capacity to sign him. What Leo brings to the club is huge, which you can see just outside. He is a big asset for the club. I hope Leo will not ask for more salary, but what we have is fantastic.”
