Luis Enrique has warned that Paris Saint-Germain intend to “continue to conquer the footballing world” after they won their first Champions League title.
PSG have dominated French football since gaining Qatari investment in 2011 but had failed in their ultimate ambition to win the European crown until Saturday evening, when they thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in a one-sided final in Munich.
Desire Doue scored twice for the Parisians at the Allianz Arena to ensure PSG won the trouble, having already won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.
Their manager Enrique was delighted as he won his second Champions League title, following success in 2015 with Barcelona, but urged PSG to go on and win more under him.
“There was so much tension coming into the game that I don’t really know what to think,” he said afterwards. “I just know that my team was exceptional this evening.
“I said when I joined that my ultimate aim was to fill the trophy cabinet, and I said that the only trophy that was missing was the Champions League. Not anymore.
“We are going to continue to conquer the footballing world.
“I thought we were marvellous this evening. When we got the third goal I was thinking, right, we need to get this fourth goal.
“Everything we have done during the course of this season has paid off. We are so happy, and now let us celebrate.”

Enrique also had a message for the losing finalists, noting: “Inter Milan stayed on the pitch afterwards. That is something we should be teaching our kids that, win or lose, come rain or shine, you show respect for your opponents.
“And I would like to congratulate Inter Milan for that.”
