'Proud moment for India': Jay Shah hails Coldplay's record attendance in Ahmedabad

NEW DELHI: International Cricket Council (ICC) Chair Jay Shah on Wednesday hailed Coldplay’s record-breaking concert attendance in Ahmedabad, calling it a 'proud moment for India'.

The British band performed at the Narendra Modi Stadium, drawing a massive crowd, setting a new benchmark for live music events in the country. Shah took to social media to acknowledge the historic occasion, emphasising India's growing prominence as a global entertainment hub.

"It’s a proud moment for India as @coldplay recorded their biggest concert with 134000 in attendance. Thanks to the holistic vision of Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji that Ahmedabad has now become an epicenter of hosting not only big sporting events, but also entertainment events," Shah wrote on X.

"The incredible show at the #ColdplayAhmedabad is proof that India is capable of pulling out any major event with seamless coordination. Could not be a better occasion than #RepublicDay as more than 2.5 lakhs visitors came to Ahmedabad, with over 1.70lakh from outside Gujarat," Shah added.

"Kudos to @GCAMotera, managing teams and @AhmedabadPolice for their consistent efforts in hosting the band and the fans for two days and ensuring a seamless experience. This has surely boosted the state's economy at different fronts," Shah concluded.

The event showcased the stadium's world-class infrastructure, which has previously hosted marquee cricket events.

Fans celebrated the electrifying performance, with Coldplay expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support. The concert reaffirmed India’s ability to host large-scale international events.
