An anti-immigration group blocked a busy Glasgow street this evening after a man was arrested and charged in connection with a sexual assault in the area.
Royston Road was shut temporarily from its tip at the M8 on-slip around 6.30pm and traffic was diverted by police.
The Glasgow Times previously reported that Mohamed Raouf Mezahdi, 40, appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, July 2 following an alleged sexual assault in the Royston area where he made no plea.
The rally began outside Royston Library before the crowd relocated further down the road to Royston Square, where they could began their blocking of the street.
An unidentified member of the group threw a brick through the window of a property in Royston Square before others attempted to access the front door of the property but were stopped by police.
Upon the arrival of further police vehicles, protesters began moving back to their original spots in the blockade in an effort to reinforce it.
They remained there until around 7pm when police negotiated with them to move further down the road. This allowed the road to be reopened.
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment regarding the protest, they are yet to respond.
