Law enforcement arrested protesters and removed multiple tents from an encampment on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus Wednesday morning. However, the tents are back up as police have left the premises.
At least 12 people were arrested for resisting police action and interfering with operations, while around 30 protesters were cited, according to the university.
Video footage captured Dane County Sheriff’s deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers with riot control shields advancing into a chanting crowd. Protesters pushed back with their arms locked together, as shown in the video. Some officers in Madison Police Department uniforms dismantled tents on the ground, while others used batons to push protesters back.

University Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin referred to the encampment as 'illegal activity' in an earlier statement. She mentioned that as long as protests adhere to campus and state rules and policies, her leadership team is prepared to listen to the community's concerns.
The university stated that the encampment violates school policy and a state law restricting certain activities on campus.
