Proof that Hugo Lloris is having a better season than Tottenham fans may have realised

Hugo Lloris has endured some of the most embarrassing moments a goalkeeper can go through but it seems those incidents have led to the Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper becoming somewhat under-rated.

You only have to look at what transpired in the World Cup final when Lloris was tackled by Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic.

The France star suffered the ultimate humiliation that day on the biggest stage in football but his side still won 4-2.

Spurs fans will know more than most that this is not an isolated case but an analysis piece from Sky Sports has uncovered that Lloris has actually starred this season.

Not only has he come up with some pivotal stops including a penalty save from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to secure a draw against Arsenal earlier this month, one key stat proves the French keeper has outperformed his rivals this season.

Expected goals conceded highlights that Lloris has saved his side more goals than any other keeper has for their own team.

Sky Sports say that Lloris has saved 6.2 goals this season in comparison with Liverpool’s Allisson (4.5) and Arsenal’s Bernd Leno (3.8).

Man City’s Ederson has saved only 0.1 expected goals this term, while Manchester United’s David De Gea (-0.6) and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga (-2.6) have both conceded more goals than they should have according to expected goals.

This is very positive for Lloris and Spurs but they’ll need the keeper to continue impressing as they aim to secure a top-four berth in the Premier League.
