Promising youngster returns to Nottingham Forest after surprise end to loan spell

Defender Danny Preston looks set to return to Nottingham Forest today after spending the first half of the season on loan at Grimsby Town.

The 20-year-old is held in high regard by Forest and was a regular for Grimsby, making 29 appearances for the Mariners.

However, our sister title Grimsby Live reports they are set to bring in two new loan signings on transfer deadline day with Preston returning to the Reds.

Preston tweeted a message thanking Grimsby and their fans for their support, although he has since deleted the tweet with nothing official announced.

He wrote: "Unfortunately my time @officialgtfc has come to an end, I’d like to thank all the players and staff for making me feel so welcome from day one! And to all the fans that have stuck with us while times are tough, Thankyou! I wish you all the best for the rest of the season! #UTM"

Should Preston return to Forest, it is possible they could rush through a loan elsewhere given he is seen as a good prospect at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

He is unlikely to break into Forest's first team this season with Yuri Ribeiro, Gaetan Bong and Tyler Blackett already in the senior squad.
