ProCook among South West workplaces ranked UK’s best for wellbeing

Kitchenware brand ProCook is one of the South West companies to be named among the best workplaces in the UK for staff wellbeing.

The Gloucester-based firm, which employs around 200 people in the area and a total workforce of 700 employees, has made a list of 250 businesses compiled by employment specialist Great Place To Work.

The organisation analysed thousands of employee surveys and then ranked companies based on how they scored on supporting staff with work-life balance, sense of fulfilment, job satisfaction, psychological safety and financial security.

ProCook, which completed a float on the London Stock Exchange last year, placed 45th out of 63 large companies with a workforce of 251 to 1,000 employees.

The retailer said it netted an overall positive rating of 83%, driven by its staff awarding it high marks for leadership behaviour and effectiveness, communication, camaraderie and community.

ProCook said its employees felt that management was “honest and ethical” in its business practices, and that people were treated fairly, regardless of their sexual orientation, race, gender and age.

Sarah Wheatley, HR and ESG director at ProCook, said: ”The past two years have been particularly challenging for all employers and we’ve gone to great lengths to ensure our teams are fully supported both at home and in the workplace.

“We’ll continue to prioritise our people, putting their needs at the core of the business along with our customers, to ensure we continue to offer the best products and services we can.”

Other South West firms to feature were Bristol-based tech company Immersive Labs (195 employees) and financial services firm The Exeter (173 employees) who placed 11th and 46th respectively out of employers in the medium-sized category (51-150 employees).

In the small organisation category (20-50 employees) Cheltenham cybersecurity SentinelOne (21 employees) came 32nd out 56 while Bristol-based IT business Rock Pool Digital (33 employees) was 51st.

Benedict Gautrey, managing director of Great Place to Work UK, said: “When employees feel genuinely cared for, their loyalty, engagement and productivity improve. Happier people also become brand advocates for the business and will often go the extra mile to provide a positive experience for their clients and customers.

“We’re delighted to launch our first-ever UK’s Best Workplaces for Wellbeing list in 2022, shining a light on the 250 companies who have succeeded in ensuring staff experience high levels of wellbeing across the organisation. Hopefully this recognition and acknowledgement will inspire more workplaces to do the same in years to come.”

Feltham-based IT firm Cisco topped the super large category (more than 1,000 employees). London business management consultancy Baringa ranked first among large employers.

Global consultancy Slalom scored highest among medium-sized firms while another London management consultancy, PEN Partnership, was top of the list of smaller employers.
