Princess Charlotte likely to lose titles when Prince William becomes King

Princess Charlotte will most likely lose her titles when her father, Prince William, becomes King, according to royal experts.

Monarchy rules and the line of succession mean that she would probably no longer have the title of Princess, Bristol Live reports.

YouTube channel OSSA said the 6-year-old’s "future will only change dramatically when her father succeeds his grandfather as King.”

They added: “When that happens life as Charlotte knows it will look very different, in fact, there is a good chance she’ll lose her titles when her dad is on the throne.

“By the time William is King of England, his eldest son George will be Prince of Wales."

OSSA clarified that would make the young royal "Charlotte of nothing"

“Her right to be Princess of Wales flies out the window when her brother gets the official title of Prince of Wales because a Royal lady can only be a princess if she’s married to a Prince or the daughter of a Prince.

“As George’s sister, Charlotte doesn’t fit either category.”

However, she could potentially adopt another when Prince William ascends the throne, The Express notes.

Charlotte is due to see her title change on at least two occasions as she is set to become Charlotte of Cambridge and Cornwall when Prince William steps further up in the line of succession.

Once the Duke of Cambridge is granted the title of Prince of Wales after his father's coronation, she is set to become Princess Charlotte of Wales.

But despite losing out on titles when William is king, Charlotte could take on the title of Princess Royal later in life.

As OSSA explained, "Princess Royal is a special title held by the eldest daughter of the reigning monarch which is currently Princess Anne."

But there can only be one Princess Royal, and as it's not definite that Princess Charlotte will be granted the title at all.

As Prince Charles, who is next in line to the throne, has no daughters, there will be no Princess Royal during his reign.

The options for a title for Princess Charlotte in the future become even slimmer.

Charlotte cannot become a Duchess like her mum Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, because in order to become a Duchess she must marry a Duke. The Duchess title is not hereditary but the Duke title is.
