Prince William dons scrubs as he visits hospital to learn about new cancer treatments

Prince William swapped his suit for surgical scrubs as he visited a hospital today to learn about new pioneering cancer treatments.

He was flying solo as he paid a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London - a specialist cancer treatment centre, of which he is the president.

During his tour, he met with staff and heard more about the brand new treatments and improved cancer diagnosis techniques that are on offer.

At one point, he even donned scrubs as he was shown a revolutionary robot that carries out microwave ablation - a minimally-invasive treatment for cancer.

After he visited the hospital's ‘Man Van’, which has been set up to encourage men traditionally reluctant to get checked for issues such as prostate cancer.

William's visit to the Royal Marsden comes just weeks after he visited cancer campaigner Deborah James, who is receiving end-of-life care, to present her with her Damehood.

The 40-year-old, known online as Bowel Babe after campaigning to raise awareness of the disease, has raised much more than her original £250,000 goal for Cancer Research UK.

Mother of two Deborah has raised a staggering £6.5 million for Cancer Research UK since posting a 'farewell' message on Instagram.

The 40-year old aimed to raise £250,000, but has smashed that target in such a short space of time.

William is believed to have cleared his diary especially after receiving Deborah's invitation to join her for afternoon tea and champagne with her family.

Posting images of the meeting on Instagram, Deborah wrote: "Prince William actually came to our family house today!!

"I am utterly honoured that he joined us for afternoon tea and champagne, where he not only spent a generous amount of time talking to my whole family but also honoured me with my Damehood.

"It’s quite surreal having a royal pop in at home, and yes you can imagine the cleaning antics and preparation went off the scale - but it was all irrelevant because William was so kind and he put us all at ease.

"He is clearly passionate about improving oncology outcomes as the President of the Royal Marsden. It was such a special day for my whole family, making memories to last a life time. He’s welcome back any time!"
