Prince Harry was teased for picking up unusual habit he thought was 'perfectly normal'

Prince Harry has revealed he was teased when he was younger after picking up an unusual but very important habit from his dad.

The Duke admits he thought it was completely normal, as he had watched Prince Charles do it for so long, but his friends quickly told him otherwise.

Speaking on a BBC documentary to mark Prince Charles's 70th birthday, Harry said: "I used to get taken the mickey out of at school for just picking up rubbish" reports the Express .

He goes on: "When you go for walks anywhere, if you see something, it stands out, you pick it up.

"Before you know it, somebody [says], 'What are you doing?' I've literally done this because I am programmed to do it because my father did it. And actually, we should all be doing it."

Big brother Prince William also revealed their dad used to take them litter picking when they were children.

When they were on holiday in Norfolk, Charles would give the boys rubbish spikes and plastic bags and send them to clear up different areas.

Charles has spoken at length about his concerns about the environment and plastic, and his sons have followed in his footsteps.

He has been mocked in the past for his views, with many claiming he was old-fashioned and anti-science.

Most recently, Harry has said their are "no more excuses" for plastic pollution.

Speaking at the Australian Geographic Society Gala Awards at Sydney’s Shangri-La Hotel during his Royal Tour with Meghan Markle , he said: "We cannot continue to pollute the oceans with plastics and other wastes.

"We cannot stand by and let wildlife disappear from the earth and fish from the seas."
