Prince Harry's ex Cressida Bonas' heartfelt tribute to Queen with sweet dog photo

Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas had paid a heartfelt tribute to the Queen. Her Majesty died surrounded by her family at Balmoral on Thursday and now a period of national mourning has begun for the 96-year-old monarch.

One of those who travelled up to Scotland was the Duke of Sussex, who raced to the Scottish Highlands to be by his grandmother's side but sadly arrived around 90 minutes after the announcement of her death. His former partner, Cressida, gave her condolences and posted a sweet photo of the Queen with her dogs.

Alongside the snaps, she wrote in the caption: "We were so blessed to have you as our Queen. Thank you"

Cressida, who dated Prince Harry between 2012 and 2014, also put a white love heart at the end of her message.

The prince met Cressida through his cousin, Princess Eugenie, and was said to have fallen for the actress and dancer quite quickly.

The pair tried to keep their romance out of the limelight and it was only in March 2014 that Cressida accompanied the Prince to her first official engagement, attending the launch of We Day at Wembley arena.

The prince reportedly regularly wrote to Cressida while serving in Afghanistan in late 2012.

They split after two years amid speculation that she felt uncomfortable with the attention that came with dating a royal.

At the time of their split, a friend said: "It's very sad that they have decided to split but this is a completely amicable separation and they are remaining the very best of friends."

But the former couple remaind firm friends and have been spotted together at mutual friends' weddings over the years.

Cressida attended Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle at St George's Chapel in Windsor back in 2018.

She also popped up on our TV screens back in 2020 when she played serial killer Jeremy Bamber's sister Sheila 'Bambi' Caffell in ITV's White House Farm.

The actress had a secret lockdown wedding to her husband, an estate agent and the son of the Marchioness of Milford Haven, in August 2020.

Her ex-boyfriend, Prince Harry, happened to be in the UK this week with wife Meghan to attend the WellChild Awards on Thursday evening.

He had flown into Aberdeen Airport alone, hours after his brother and two uncles flew together to the same airstrip.

A spokesperson for the couple had initially said Meghan would be joining her husband travelling north, but it was later decided she would remain in London.

On his arrival at Balmoral yesterday, Harry was seen looking downcast following the announcement of the Queen's death.

This morning, the Duke was seen being driven through the main gates of the Royal residence by his security team as part of a two-car convoy.

He was later seen arriving at Aberdeen Airport where he laid a supportive hand on an airport employee before boarding a plane.

Following the Queen's tragic death, her son has now become King Charles III and the new monarch will make a historic address to the nation tonight

King Charles will return to London today as his reign began in earnest and a period of national mourning for the Queen has commenced.
