Prince Harry baffles fans with gushing thank yous to celeb pals including James Cordon

Prince Harry's memoir Spare has hit the shelves today (January 10), and royal fans all around the world sharing their reactions online.

One thing that has baffled some fans is the acknowledgments at the end, where Prince Harry snubs royal family members in favour of a number of Hollywood stars.

Among the friends he thanks are some very well known names, including Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Chris Martin and James Corden, who he thanks for their "unwavering friendship and support”.

But many Spare readers will be left wondering how the prince’s close friendship with these Hollywood stars came about.

One reader on Twitter even accused the Duke of Sussex of "celebrity name dropping," but it turns out since moving to the US, the prince has formed some solid friendships.

Chris Martin

Harry's friendship with Chris Martin stretches back to at least 2014, when the Coldplay frontman wrote a song for the Invictus Games, which was founded by the Duke of Sussex.

Harry and Chris were pictured in a recording studio together ahead of the song's release.

Later, Harry enlisted the support of Chris and his Coldplay bandmates for his Sentebale charity concert at Kensington Palace in June 2016. The charity supports adolescents affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.

The Duke of Sussex joined the band on stage with a children’s choir for their Up & Up single.

After the finale, Prince Harry said: "Thank you to Coldplay – thank you so much, you've rocked the palace, you've rocked the palace."

It's also likely Harry's friendship with Chris strengthened after the prince moved to Montecito, which is only 63 miles away from Chris' home in Malibu.

Oprah Winfrey

Royal fans will no doubt remember Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's highly explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March 2021, but their friendship stretches back further.

When Harry and Meghan got married on May 19 2018, the American talk show host was one of the guests. She told Entertainment Tonight that the event was "transformative" and that it was "more than a wedding," but also a "cultural moment".

It's believed that Oprah had only met Meghan once before being invited to their wedding - and in their Netflix show, Meghan claimed Oprah was shocked at the size of Nott Cott.

Harry and Meghan's friendship with Oprah has no doubt continued to grow after moving to the US, because she is one of their Montecito neighbours.

James Corden

The Late Late Show host James Corden also managed to bag an interview with the Queen's grandson.

It was the first interview since the palace announced that Harry and Meghan would be stepping away from their work with the Royal Family.

In the chat, Harry made honest admissions about quitting the Uk and moving to America, and revealed that the Queen had sent Archie a waffle maker as a Christmas present.

James and Harry have been friends for about a decade, and having both moved from the UK to set up home in Los Angeles, they have a lot in common.

The Carpool Karaoke star also attended Harry and Meghan's lavish wedding, and he later said it had been "one of the most beautiful ceremonies I've ever been to".

James and his wife Julia, with their three kids, live just 90 minutes from Harry and Meghan's mansion, although they are moving back to the UK shortly.

Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry appeared in the Harry & Meghan documentary series (Netflix)

American actor, director and playwright Tyler Perry is godfather to Harry and Meghan's daughter Lilibet.

When the couple first moved to the US, they stayed at the actor's home.

In Netflix's Harry & Meghan series, Tyler explained that he had initially reached out to Meghan after noticing that her father Thomas Markle was cooperating with the press.

A few year later they developed a friendship, and he would go on to provide the couple with a place to stay after they left the UK.

Meghan said: "He [was] like, 'My house is safe. You’re going to stay as long as you need and I’m going get you there safely. And I’m gonna keep you there safely until you have somewhere to go."
