Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sign major deal with Netflix to make documentaries

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have signed a huge deal with streaming service Netflix.

The royal couple have founded an unnamed production company and signed a multi-year deal with Netflix.

The firm will reportedly pay the couple to make documentaries, children's programmes and more.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will also create scripted shows and feature films.

A statement from Meghan, 39, and Harry, 35, said: "Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

"As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us."

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer and co-chief exec, said: "We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere."

Harry and Meghan are confident that Netflix's "unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action".

The deal comes less than one year after the couple stepped down from their roles as senior royals and moved out of the UK.

They've relocated to Los Angeles with their son Archie, where it seems they're fully embracing the Hollywood lifestyle.

It's not yet known how much the couple will make through the deal, but it's thought it could be a lot of money given that this is a major signing for the streaming service.

The name of Harry and Meghan's production company hasn't been released yet either, but they won't be able to use the word "royal" given that they effectively gave up their status in the UK.

They were told by the Queen that they wouldn't be able to use the word in any of their branding after they decided they wanted to become financially independent and move to America.

In 2018, Netflix signed a deal with former US President Barack Obama and his First Lady Michelle to work on scripted and unscripted docu-series, films and feature productions.

It's said that Meghan and Harry could also be branching out into the podcast world too.

The Mirror revealed that Spotify is set to offer a megadeal to the couple, after also signing Michelle Obama.

An insider said: "Of course, money is no object. Meghan Markle will be more or less able to name her price for exclusively working with them on a podcast series.

"The Duke and Duchess have been on their hit list for a while and a detailed proposal is set to be presented to Meghan’s US agent in a matter of weeks."
