Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could 'command top-dollar fee' if they sell the rights to Spare

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be in line for another bumper payday if they sell the rights to the Duke of Sussex's latest memoir.

Spare quickly became a top seller when it was released earlier this year and there is a clamour about Hollywood for the words to be turned into a production.

It's said Harry is banking on receiving a record deal if he is to sell the movie or streaming rights for his explosive best-seller.

In it, he makes a host of jaw-dropping revelations, from his drug taking and sex life, to fighting on the front line in Afghanistan.

He also opens up on his current life with his former Suits star wife and the bitter battle he has faced with the Royal Family.

The book was ghostwritten by JD Mohelinger whose own memoir became a film starring Ben Affleck. The movie's director, George Clooney is said to have introduced the author to the prince.

And it's said that Harry and Meghan are "hopeful" the words will soon make it onto the big screen.

A source told the Daily Express: "Harry and Meghan are in a win-win position. He will command a top-dollar fee for the rights, while involving Archewell would mean a more lucrative 'double dip'."

Any production would follow in the footsteps of the big hitter Netflix series the Duke and Duchess released earlier this year on Netflix.

The streaming giant could go in for the rights to the book as they could be looking for more royal content with huge fan-favourite The Crown set to air its sixth and final season.

Currently, the biggest deal to be struck when turning a book into a film resides with Dan Brown's bestseller The Da Vinci Code.

Back in 2003, the production rights demanded a $6million fee - which is still shy of the biggest-ever payday which Marvel Comics received from Sony.

In 1999, the company paid a whopping $10million for the rights to the entire Spider-man back catalogue.

However, it is thought that while Harry and Meghan could try to hold out for such a sum, it is unlikely it will get that high.

"Nobody in these tough times is throwing money around like that," the source continued. "But given the success of Spare and Harry's cachet, he can count on a record or near-record deal."
