Prime more expensive than champagne as shop flogs drink with 500 per cent mark up

The demand for Prime energy drink has not abated as shoppers clamour to get their hands on the wildly popular beverage.

Now one enterprising Ayrshire shop has started selling two flavours of the drink with a hefty 528 per cent mark up attached.

A bottle will set you back £1.99 in a branch of Asda - and already above average price for a soft drink in most supermarkets.

But Woodstock Store in Kilmarnock is flogging the in demand beverage for £12.50 - more than six times what Asda and Aldi are charging. The shop has both Tropical Punch and Blue Raspberry flavours.

The price hike at the Woodstock Street shop makes a 500ml Prime more expensive per ml than champagne with a 750ml bottle of bubbly costing as little as £15 in the supermarket.

Asda and Arsenal FC's store are the only retailer's currently licensed to sell the drink in the UK.

It comes as Aldi secured crates of Prime as a Specialbuy yesterday with the drink flying off the shelves.

The supermarket received stock of Blue Raspberry, Lemon and Lime, and Ice Pop flavours in stores across the UK.

The viral hydration drink was created by two popular YouTube stars, KSI and Logan Paul.
