Prices for prosecco, beer and wine for Plate Day at Newcastle Racecourse

When the Plate Day crowds turn out this Saturday to make the most of what is a sporting - and social - highlight of the year, one sure bet is that we soon will be seeing plenty glamorous photos of well-dressed racegoers, full of smiles and usually with a glass of fizz in hand to add sparkle to the day whatever the weather.

The drink of choice may alter but the party mood is pretty much guaranteed to be the same when people welome back the highlight of the Northumberland Plate Festival. Those wanting to know if the sun will also come out to join the party can follow our weather guide here, while we also have information about the race timings and entertainment as well as travel tips to reach the Gosforth Park ground. We have the rules on food and drinks covered too.

It all promises to be a wonderful day and wrapping it up will be DJ favourite Pete Tong who will be providing the live post-racing entertainment before those still with some stamina are invited to carry on the celebrations at an official after-show party at Aveika in Newcastle. Note that hospitality packages for Plate Day are now sold out, apart from the Sergeant Cecil marquee which currently has limited availability, but there still remain tickets for all three days of the festival which can be either booked online in advance prior to gates opening or bought at the turnstiles.

So, with the main information provided, that just leaves the question of how much it might cost for racegoers to enjoy themselves, drinks-wise, on the day. Betting costs aside, many racegoers will be splashing out to toast their success or even just their get-together with friends so below are the average prices of drinks at Newcastle Racecourse. There are various bars on site:

Colonel Porter’s Bar - this Premier Enclosure bar serves food and drink to Premier Enclosure guests, and is named after the master brewer behind Newcastle Brown Ale.

Blaydon Bar - named after the nearby town, with its associated Blaydon Races song, this bar serves beer, wine and spirits, and is located in the Grandstand Enclosure.

Eider Bar - the name of this bar, also in the Grandstand Enclosure, pays tribute to the famous jumps race of the same name.

There are also several places for food and drink including food stands and the Border Minstrel Pub - in the grounds of High Gosforth Park - which has a traditional country pub feel. There are also themed pop-up bars on various race days which include the likes of a Pommery Champagne Trailer, Pimm’s Tent and beer bars.

How much will Plate Day drinks cost?

Average priced are a pint - £5.30; bottle of wine - £24; bottle of Prosecco - £34.

When the Plate Day celebrations come to a close, those wanting to attend the official after-party at Aveika in Newcastle can find out about it here. And anyone looking ahead to Ladies Day, which following Saturday will be the next main highlight event at Newcastle Racecourse, can read here about some exciting new additions for this year, including new bars and dining pods.
