Preuss looms as ruck solution for Giants

Ruckman Braydon Preuss has emerged as a potential AFL trade target for Greater Western Sydney. (AAP)

Melbourne's Braydon Preuss has nominated Greater Western Sydney as his destination of choice in his bid to become a first-choice AFL ruckman.

Preuss was stuck behind Todd Goldstein during his eight-game career at North Melbourne, and he has added just 10 games over two seasons at the Demons playing second fiddle to Max Gawn.

The 25-year-old also fell behind No.3 pick Luke Jackson in the ruck pecking order at Melbourne this season.

Preuss still has another two years on his current Demons contract, but the desire for more game time has reportedly convinced the 206cm ruckman to join the Giants.

GWS are in desperate need of a ruckman after Sam Jacobs called time on his AFL career.

Although Shane Mumford is a chance to sign another one-year deal, it's expected the 34-year-old will be mainly used as a back-up.

The Giants will now have to work out a trade deal in order to secure Preuss.
