Pret giving NHS workers free hot drinks and 50% off during the Coronavirus outbreak

Pret A Manger is giving free hot drinks to all NHS staff during the Coronavirus pandemic.

All frontline staff will be able to claim free tea or coffee and also receive an additional 50% off other items such as sandwiches and cakes.

The coffee chain will be rolling out the offer from today (18 March) following an announcement on its official Twitter, Instagram and Facebook social channels.

The message read: "Dear NHS Workers, Your hot drinks are on the house from today, and we'll take 50% off everything else. Thank you for everything you are doing. We look forward to serving you.vWith love, Everyone at Pret"

Many followers commended the chain's new initiative online and flocked online to thank Pret directly.

One Facebook follower commented: "This is the sort of news we need. Hats off to you."

Another posted: "It’s really appreciated by us all to know that while others are being told to socially-distance themselves and self-isolate, those of us working for the NHS do not have that option open to us. Thank you"

Another added: "Thank you from all the Nhs staff at st.andrews fife x. X"

Pret has also announced it will operate most UK chains as takeaway services as a way to reduce crowds and the increased risk of spreading the deadly Covid-19 virus.

The chain shared a message on its official Facebook page that read: "Now more than ever, you need to be able to pick up freshly made food quickly.

"So from today, we will be operating mainly as a takeaway business, with our seating areas closed.

"We will continue to reinforce our strict hygiene standards and do everything we can to look after our team members and all of you."

Along with Pret, McDonald's is also offering free drinks to NHS, council and emergency service staff during the outbreak.

A spokesperson for the fast food chain said: "We want to use our UK and Ireland footprint to thank, reward and support the health and care workers doing an incredible job in difficult and unprecedented times. "

Frontline staff just need to show their work passes to redeem the deal.
