Preston boss Alex Neil left feeling robbed after City Ground draw but praises Nottingham Forest's grit

Preston North End boss Alex Neil says his patched-up team should have beaten Nottingham Forest as he questioned the validity of the equalising goal.

The visitors dominated the first half at the City Ground and took a deserved lead through Billy Bodin.

However, the Reds were much improved after the break and equalised through Albert Adomah to head into the international break having lost just once in the Championship.

Neil felt his team should have made more of their first half control of the game as Brice Samba made two good stops.

"Most people would see it that way (two points dropped). First half we had three or four really good chances," he said.

"Their keeper makes a couple of good saves. We get a good goal and first half, we were totally dominant.

"Second half we knew they would be more aggressive and play on top of us. I knew that would be difficult for us because we didn't have the pace at the top end of the pitch due to injuries.

"If we could turn them we could have got in behind but we needed to be a bit braver and force the ball through the middle a bit more.

"Naturally when you're winning the game, you're reluctant to do it. We didn't keep the ball enough.

"Forest did the scrappy bits of the game in the second half better than us, that's why we were going the other way and they were heading towards our goal."

Preston were without two attacking players in Sean Maguire and Tom Barkhuizen and Neil felt that was key as he shuffled his squad around, although he said the midfield trio of Paul Gallagher, Daniel Johnson and Josh Harrop could have done more to wrestle back control as the second half went on.

"You have to look at what we've had to do today to get a team together and prepped against a good side," he said.

"We've done remarkably well. We've got a right-back playing left-back.

"We've got a number 10 playing right-back. We've got a wide left playing centre-forward. To play as well as we did first half was remarkable.

"We're frustrated because they've had one meaningful chance and scored. It looked offside.

"I've seen it back and it looks offside, but we're frustrated in the part we played in the goal as well.

"I'm disappointed we didn't have players available that would have allowed us to turn the ball and get in behind them.

"It became difficult. What we need to do is fight and keep the ball alive. Our three midfielders were second to things and didn't put a foot in.

"Having said that, you won't dominate game for 90 minutes. You'll need to soak up pressure and we did that well."
