President Donald Trump's handling of coronavirus gets much higher approval from Floridians than nationwide.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ President Donald Trump is getting higher marks from Florida voters over his handling of the coronavirus outbreak than he is from Americans overall.

A slight majority of Florida voters, 51%, said they approve of the job Trump is dong in handling the spread of coronavirus in the United States, with 36% disapproving and 13% neutral or offering no opinion.

The numbers come from a Florida Atlantic University poll released Tuesday.

Confidence in the federal government's ability to handle coronavirus is about the same, with 52% of Florida voters confident and 31% not confident.

As with just about everything connected with Trump, assessments of his handling of coronavirus break down largely on party lines.

Among Florida Republicans, 86% approve and 8% disapprove of Trump's handling of coronavirus.

Among the state's Democrats, 21% approve and 64% disapprove.

Among no party affiliation/independent voters, 46% approve and 34% disapprove of his performance.

National polling shows more people disapproved than approved of Trump's handling of coronavirus.

A Quinnipiac University poll on Monday found 43% of Americans approve and 49% disapprove of Trump's handling of coronavirus. The poll was conducted Thursday through Sunday.

A national CNN poll released Monday found 41% of Americans approve and 48% of disapprove of the way Trump is handling the coronavirus outbreak.

Trump's overall national approval rating hasn't changed. CNN said 43% of Americans approve and 53% disapprove, the same as it was in December.

The CNN poll was conducted Wednesday through Saturday.

CNN said 49% of those surveyed said the federal government has done a good job preventing the spread of coronavirus, 43% say poor.
