President Donald Trump 'could be impeached if evidence shows he obstructed Mueller investigation'

Donald Trump could be impeached if further evidence shows he obstructed justice in Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, according to the US House Judiciary Committee Chairman.

Jerrold Nadler said if it is proven certain accusations did take place then they could be "impeachable" offences.

"If proven, some of this would be impeachable, yes," Mr Nadler said on NBC's Meet the Press.

He said Democrats are not currently pursuing such an action but they plan to "go where the evidence leads" them.

President Trump has continued to hit out the report and fallout from it after its public release this week.

He wrote on Twitter: "Despite No Collusion, No Obstruction, The Radical Left Democrats do not want to go on to Legislate for the good of the people, but only to Investigate and waste time. This is costing our Country greatly, and will cost the Dems big time in 2020!"

Previously he has called certain claims about him in the report "fabricated" and "totally untrue".

Special counsel Robert Mueller found no criminal evidence that Mr Trump or his campaign aides colluded in Russian election meddling, while the report also did not recommend obstruction charges against the president.

However, the 448-page document nonetheless described numerous cases where he allegedly discouraged witnesses from cooperating with prosecutors.

Earlier in the day, Mr Trump shared an Easter message and wrote: "Happy Easter! I have never been happier or more content because your Country is doing so well, with an Economy that is the talk of the World and may be stronger than it has ever been before. Have a great day!"
