Presenter Rick Edwards becomes a dad as wife Emer Kenny announces surprise birth of baby boy

Rick Edwards and Emer Kenny have become parents as the actress welcomed a baby boy.

EastEnders actress Emer, 33, announced the joyous news on Instagram this morning.

She shared a photo of herself in bed kissing the bundle of joy while a second snap shows the proud new dad cradling the tot while smiling at his son.

A final addition to the posts is a video of a radio playing BBC Radio 5 Live as Rick shares the news with listeners and explains his recent absence.

The former T4 frontman, 44, said: "I'm not just work shy, I haven't been off filming an exciting new television show... actually better than that; Emer and I have had our first baby!

"He's a beautiful baby boy, it's amazing. I'm really biased but this guy is fantastic, hungry and fantastic and we're just, yeah, just the three of us kind of hanging out and getting to know each other."

As Emer shared the surprising news with her 30,000 followers, she wrote in the caption: "Some news! Rick & I have had a beautiful baby boy. He is just magic."

The new parents kept their pregnancy a secret until announcing his birth today.

Soapstar Emer - who played Zsa Zsa Carter in Albert Square - also shared some pictures of herself from when she was pregnant on her Instagram.

The couple, who are known to keep their relationship private, tied the knot at Kew Gardens in London in 2016 after a five-year romance.

They wed in front of friends and family before Emer headed straight back to work - previously revealing there was no time to enjoy a proper honeymoon and instead she took her new husband to work.

Despite the pair keeping their relationship and baby news under wraps, Rick and Emer discussed their love for one another in a rare interview with The Sunday Times magazine this weekend.

The couple told the publication how they met at a Jessie Cave comedy show in 2013 - a mutual friend of both of them.

Emer revealed how she instinctively threw a peace sign up at him and Rick came over to sit with her.

Rick later took her out for a birthday lunch, after which they had their first kiss, and they got engaged just six weeks later.

Emer also revealed how she was a late teen when her husband presented T4. But he wasn't the star she had her eye on as she always had more of a thing for his co-star Steve Jones, something Rick still teases her about.
