Montrose pulled off the shock of the Premier Sports Cup group stage so far, defeating Dundee United 1-0 in an impressive victory for Stewart Petrie's side.

Graham Webster's first-half goal proved to be the decisive winner for the League 1 side who kicked off their cup campaign in the best possible way at Links Park.

Elsewhere in Group B, The Spartans were defeated 3-1 at home by Stirling Albion, with the away side coming from behind to secure an impressive victory at Ainslie Park.

Stephen Robinson's Aberdeen started their pursuit of silverware with a 2-0 win over Brora Rangers, with Kevin Nisbet scoring a brace over their Group A opponents.

In the same group, two goals in five minutes from Aidan Connolly and Jack Hamilton sealed a 2-0 win for Queen's Park against Kelty Hearts at New Central Park, with the former sitting top thanks to their win over Brora last weekend.

It was a return to winning ways for Neil Lennon's Dunfermline in Group C, who got over their resounding defeat to East Kilbride by doing similar to Dumbarton on Tuesday night.

A brace from Andrew Tod, as well as goals from Oli Shaw and Josh Cooper, signalled a return to form for the Pars at East End Park, whose conquerors last weekend were defeated by Cove Rangers in an entertaining clash at Balmoral Stadium.

Despite taking the lead through Keir Foster, Cove hit back through Destiny Oladipo and Reuben McAllister in three second-half minutes, before Max Berry scored the winner just six minutes from time.
