Premier League supremo asked direct questions on Newcastle United's takeover process

Newcastle United's takeover process must remain "completely confidential" despite the fact supporters on Tyneside are desperate for a decision on whether Mike Ashley's time at the club is over or not.

The Premier League's chief executive Richard Masters was asked directly about the situation for a second time in six days.

This time Masters faced interview questions from Sky Sports but was again keeping his cards close to his chest.

Masters, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "I can't get into it.

"The takeover of football clubs is done by the owner's and director's test.

"That process is an entirely confidential process so I can't say anything about that or go into any details."

When asked if he could share if a decision has been made, Masters said: "No I can't even do that.

"It's that confidential."

Although, Masters did say "when" a decision is made rather than if and there was no denial of the proposal on the table from Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers and Saudia Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

When asked if the Premier League preferred owners to be in place via an AGM, he said: "I don't think timing is an issue here.

"I don't think we have any specific view on when these things need to be done by.

"What we need to ensure is all the processes are followed properly.

"And when a decision is made it is the right one.

"I have been very clear, I can't go into any details about it."
