Premier League season could be declared over as club director talks 'very serious' situation

The Premier League could be set to announce that the season can't be completed, according to Udinese technical director Pierpaolo Marino.

Football across Europe has ground to a halt due to the coronavirus crisis, with UEFA insisting that competitions should be completed over the summer.

However, Belgium have announced their intention to end the season early and the SPFL will hold crunch talks at Hampden today to try and decide on a way forward.

Decisions north of the border often mirror those in England and the technical director for Udinese, whose owners also control Watford, believes the Premier League may not finish.

Marino told SportItalia: "The Belgian federation has sanctioned the end of the league, despite the threat of UEFA sanctions.

"England is about to issue the same measure, because the situation is becoming very serious. I'm talking about the Premier League.

"It's something that they want to talk about in the near future.

"I hope we can go back to football as it was before the coronavirus, we need to get away from this danger no matter how long it takes.

"I'm worried about the seasons to come, not the current one."
