Premier League sack race and what Watford decision means for Steve Bruce's odds

After Watford’s sacking of manager Xisco Muñoz, the bookmakers view Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce as one of the most likely to leave his position next.

The Hornets have built something of a reputation for their managerial merry-go-round yet the Spaniard’s departure came as a bit of a shock to Premier League followers.

With seven points from seven matches, many were surprised to see Watford relieve the manager of his duties but it shows their ambition to stay in the top flight.

Newcastle supporters were all keen to stress the same point that Mike Ashley should follow suit by sacking Bruce but it does not seem as though he is going anywhere in the short term.

Unsurprisingly, the bookmakers have priced him as second favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave.

With Bruce priced at 4/1, only Nuno Espírito Santo (3/1) is viewed as more likely to be removed. Incidentally, the Magpies face Tottenham in their next match after the upcoming international break.

Manchester United’s continued underperformance has put Ole Gunnar Solskjær at risk of being sacked as he is currently 5/1 to be the next to go.

Here is the full list which includes every current Premier League manager.

· Nuno Espírito Santo – 3/1

· Steve Bruce – 4/1

· Ole Gunnar Solskjær – 5/1

· Daniel Farke – 11/2

· Ralph Hassenhüttl – 11/2

· Mikel Arteta – 10/1

· Bruno Lage – 14/1

· Patrick Vieira – 14/1

· Sean Dyche – 14/1

· Brendan Rodgers 19/1

· Marcelo Bielsa – 25/1

· Dean Smith – 33/1

· Graham Potter – 50/1

· David Moyes – 50/1

· Rafa Benítez – 50/1

· Thomas Frank – 50/1

· Pep Guardiola – 50/1

· Thomas Tuchel – 66/1

· Jürgen Klopp – 66/1

Considering the Magpies are 19 th in the table with just three points from their opening seven games, it will be worrying for supporters that Bruce is still 4/1 to be the next top-flight manager to leave.

For other clubs of a similar stature to Newcastle, their managers would not have survived nearly as long with continued poor results over the last couple of seasons.
