Premier League restart plans could be delayed after club captains express concerns

The Premier League's Project Restart plans could face delays of at least a week after meetings with players and managers today.

Reports in numerous national newspapers stated that club captains expressed concerns about player safety and sought further assurances.

It now looks as though the planned return date of June 12 could be pushed back a week as the Premier League looks to clear the latest hurdle standing in the way of plans to get top level football up and running.

According to the Mirror, Watford's Troy Deeney and West Ham's Mark Noble were two who expressed doubts over whether the Premier League could restart.

The video conference call was said to have lasted over two hours as players looked for more information on what a return to training and action could look like.Players on the call were joined by their managers, as well as Premier League medical officer Mark Gillett and Government medical expert Dr Jonathan Van-Tam.

It will now be up to club captains to pass on the information to team-mates. More talks are expected this Thursday before the Premier League shareholders meet again on Monday.

There had been a commitment to finishing the season before clubs rejected the plans to play at neutral venues earlier this week.

Play would resume with Everton sitting in 12th position but just six points off sixth, while Liverpool need just two victories to secure the Premier League title.
