Premier League chiefs will leave takeover announcement to Newcastle United

The Premier League are expected to leave any potential takeover announcement to Newcastle United's would-be owners and Mike Ashley.

Top-flight chiefs have not commented on a big claim from Forbes' Middle East office that a deal had already been approved.

What is understood, as reported by Chronicle Live on Thursday, is that the Premier League's owner's and director's test is at the final stages and despite protests and other claims of opposition from top-flight clubs the process has moved through the latest stage without any red flags.

Once the Premier League inform Amanda Staveley and the Middle East consortium, which includes the Reuben brothers and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, the transfer of funds must take place between the relevant parties' legal and financial teams.

Despite taking their time to go through the tests in the last six weeks the Premier League would leave the official announcements to the new owners at Newcastle and a joint statement would be likely to follow.

When asked about the situation this week Bruce said: "The reason I can't say anything on it is, you (the media) probably know more than me.

"You know what it is?

"In that respect - great - because then I can't have any other ideas out there.

"As I say, whatever is best for Newcastle United is the best for me."
