Premier League announce COVID-19 results from latest round of testing

The Premier League have confirmed that there has been one new coronavirus case from its latest round of testing.

Players and staff at Premier League clubs received their results today after tests were conducted between Monday, July 6 and Sunday, July 12.

The individual who has tested positive will now have to self-isolate for seven days and cannot attend their club’s training ground as a result.

In total 1,973 players and club staff were tested and there have now been 20 positive cases since testing began at the beginning in May.

“The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 6 July and Sunday 12 July, 2,071 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, one has tested positive,” a statement from the Premier League read.

“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.

“No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.”

The 2019/20 Premier League season resumed on June 17 with Aston Villa taking on Sheffield United and Manchester City facing Arsenal a couple of hours later.
