Pregnant Kelly Osbourne diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her third trimester

Pregnant Kelly Osbourne has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

The 37-year-old, who is expecting her first child with Slipknot star Sid Wilson, says she was experiencing symptoms such as weigh gain and swelling in her ankles during her third trimester.

Kelly, the daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, admits thinking she was diagnosed after something she had "done wrong".

"First of all, gestational diabetes is not your fault," she told People. "At first I thought it was something that I had done."

She added: "I only got diagnosed with it well into my third trimester, so it wasn’t like I developed it as some people get it from the get-go when they’re pregnant.

"The number one thing for me that I realised was taking me down was sugary drinks and it was juice. Because even though I was drinking fresh pressed juice, it still had a lot more sugar than I needed."

Kelly says despite craving sugar, she's made some changes to her diet after receiving her diagnosis – and she's already noticed changes.

She said: "As soon as I cut the sugar out, I had a bit of a headache for a while. I’m not going to lie. It’s a bit of a shock to your system.

"Overall, my skin cleared up. I don’t have to wear any makeup."

According to the NHS, gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that develops during pregnancy and usually disappears after giving birth.

They say it "can happen at any stage of pregnancy" but is "more common in the second or third trimester".

Kelly, who announced back in May she is expecting her first child with Slipknot star Sid, says friends now praise her "perfect skin".

She added: "I know that sometimes that has to do with pregnancy, but I had pregnancy acne. I cut the sugar out and it completely went away. I think clearer."

Osbourne, who recently appeared as a stand-in host for Red Table Talk, stresses that, despite the diagnosis, she is "feeling really good".

She added: "I wish I had this kind of incentive prior because I’ve never been able to stick to anything a hundred percent the way that I have been doing this because I’m not doing it for myself.

"I’m doing it for my baby. But I have learned — I can’t even begin to tell you the changes that it’s made."
