Now the Ibrox side are eyeing a spot in the Scottish Cup semi final but Mark McGhee's side will aim to use this tournament to inspire them amid a nightmare run domestically.
And Rangers will be hell-bent on giving it everything in a competition they haven't won since 2009. Van Bronckhorst has spoken previously about the need to be competitive on all fronts.
But the Dutchman has used this tournament to give players opportunities and that seems a likely approach again with this trip to the City of Discovery coming before a defining night in Belgrade.
Aaron Ramsey has struggled for minutes but these appears a prime opportunity to start if Aribo and Lundstram miss out.
Fashion Sakala is also in line for game time with the Zambian an integral part of the current set-up, even if he doesn't start every match.
