Predicted Liverpool XI to face Tottenham as Jurgen Klopp faces nervous wait over star

The scene is set for Tottenham Hotspur's biggest game of the season so far.

Spurs are back in action tonight when they face reigning champions and fellow high-flyers Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League.

Tottenham and Jurgen Klopp's men are currently locked on 25 points at the top of the table with Spurs edging the race on goal difference as things stand.

Jose Mourinho's men are very much part of the title conversation - as early in the season as we may be - and on Wednesday night, they have the chance to prove their credentials.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be attempting to prove theirs after suffering more slip-ups than anyone expected them to suffer in their first 12 games of the campaign.

The Reds haven't been helped by a number of injuries, the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ruled out with long-term issues, but potential Premier League title winners must overcome such challenges.

Both teams will be desperate to get one over on a possible title rival at Anfield, but what kind of team can Spurs expect to go up against?

Liverpool could be without defender Joel Matip for the clash, though it seems the centre-back could recover from a back spasm in time.

Klopp said in his pre-match press conference: "I don’t know yet. Only two days ago we played, he left the pitch with a back spasm.

"The physios worked pretty much 24 hours on him, so we will see. Today we have another session and then we will see."

Meanwhile, James Milner is expected to miss out and with that in mind, our colleagues at the Liverpool Echo have put together a predicted Liverpool starting XI that Tottenham can expect to face on Wednesday.

Alisson Becker is likely to start in goal, with a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Fabinho and Andrew Robertson.

Jordan Henderson is being tipped to anchor the midfield, as usual, with Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones also in the midfield. The front three is expected to be Klopp's preferred Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Predicted XI: Alisson; TAA, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
