Praise for Hamilton Aldi worker who paid for customer's shopping after card was declined

A generous supermarket worker in Hamilton paid for a customer’s shopping after her card declined twice at the checkout.

Kind-hearted Julie who works in Aldi on Wellhall Wynd told the shopper to simply pass on an act of kindness of her own when she offered to come back later in the day to square up her bill.

Blown away by the cashier’s goodwill, the lady contacted Aldi thereafter to praise Julie for her amazing gesture which was shared by the food chain online.

Described as a ‘wee gem’, Julie featured in a Facebook post by Aldi Scotland which reaped hundreds of comments praising her act of kindness.

It even attracted special praise from Regional Managing Director for Scotland Richard Holloway who commented: “Julie’s act of kindness went above and beyond. We’re so proud of her and of each and every one of our colleagues who work hard day in day out to serve their local communities.”

Julie is pictured in the Aldi store where she has been working with the public during the difficult times of lockdown in the coronavirus crisis. With protective plastic shields, she and other workers have been able to serve the Hamilton community safely during the pandemic.

Locals were quick to commend Julie with one saying: “What a fantastic lady with a beautiful heart”, and another adding: “The world could do with a few more of this woman, not just about the money but the care and thought in this gesture is beautiful.”

One regular customer of the Hamilton branch said: “Brilliant staff in Hamilton Aldi. Julie is just lovely. What a kind thing to do.”
