Potential Dolphins draft target reportedly flagged for shoulder injury

Part of the behind the curtain experience of the NFL Draft is filtering through hundreds of medical reports, looking for concerning issues that may serve as the red flag needed to abort drafting a player.

Michigan’s Rashan Gary is the latest 2019 prospect to have reportedly had an injury issue flagged throughout the pre-draft process. Gary, a potential top-15 selection, has reportedly been marked with a shoulder concern — one that may not cause him to miss playing time but will need to be managed, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

This news comes after several days of speculation around another talented defensive lineman — Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat — and his draft stock after it was reported that he was flagged for a heart condition.

In a deep defensive line class, issues like these may be tie breakers for teams, including the Dolphins, as they try to decipher who they want to invest in for the next four or five years — and hopefully beyond.
