Teen gunman's Instagram boasts 'it was me who shot up' after schoolgirl blasted

A post on a teenager's social media account boasted "it was me who shot up" after he shot an innocent schoolgirl. Rio Jones, 19, was jailed for life for attempted murder after the shooting.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the gunman was handed a lifetime imprisonment with a minimum term of 16-and-a-half years last week. This punishment came after being found guilty during trial at Liverpool Crown Court of attempting to murder Shakur Watson.

During the incident on March 1, 2022, the teenager fired six gunshots as he pursued a rival gang member through the streets of Liverpool. During the chase, a 15-year-old girl was struck in the neck by a stray bullet and suffered lung damage and a shattered vertebrae in her spine from the attack.

Despite the sentencing already taking place, the situation has developed further after post appeared on what is believed to be Jones' Instagram page. The image, posted on January 17, showed a picture of a male with his hood up and face covered, making a gesture to the camera.

The caption - alongside the hashtags #freerj, #hmpliving, #cataliving and #starredup - reads: "Guess whos back RJ's back it was me who shot up. New music coming very soon run this up."

It is not known whether Jones is responsible for the post or whether it was made by another person with access to to the account. It is reported that prior to the recent post, the account seemed to have been inactive for more than a year.

The photograph also appears to be old, having previously been posted on the same feed in November 2021, more than three months prior the shooting.

A further message on Jones' Instagram story read: "everyone repost to let everyone know am back n got loads of new s*** coming real soon". Another added: "me n bro due to drop this next month wys" alongside a clip of a music video.
