Portugal to be removed from Scotland's no quarantine list

Quarantine restrictions are to be introduced for people travelling from Portugal to Scotland.

The country, alongside French Polynesia, will be removed from the Scottish Government's list of countries exempt from requiring travellers to self-isolate for 14 days upon their arrival in the country.

Justice Minister Humza Yousaf confirmed that the new rules will be implemented from 4am on Saturday (September 5).

In a Tweet, Mr Yousaf said: "If arriving into Scotland from Portugal or French Polynesia from 4am Sat (5th Sept) you'll have to self-isolate for 14 days. Gibraltar high up our watch list of countries we are monitoring closely.

"This week's data shows increase in test positivity and cases per 100k in Portugal."

Portugal has also been removed from Wales' quarantine exemption list. However, England has not made this change and continues to allow travellers to arrive in the UK without the need to self-isolate for two weeks.

It comes after quarantine restrictions were introduced for travellers arriving in Scotland from Greece.

The decision has been made due to the rise of coronavirus cases being imported into Scotland by people who have been in Greece.

People arriving in Scotland from the country will be required to self-isolate at home, or another specified address, for 14 days upon arrival. The rules are in place from 4am on Thursday (September 3).
